Petroglyphs in Langar and Ratm, north-eastern part of Afghanistan,Ishkoshim Rayon of Tajikistan.

Langar village is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level. It is the highest village in the Pamir Wakhan Valley. Ethnography, shrines, horns Siberian goats, petroglyphs and an altar, which is preserved in a good shape up-to-date, make it worth to visit Langar, Ratm. After all, this village is soaked in history, and is a valuable treasure for tourists and those curious ones.

Petroglyphs also estimated to be of more than 6000 in number! On the granite rocks, dotted with stone and stamped metal object patterns of various kinds. Mostly, one would see depicted mountain goats, deer, hunters with bows and riders, some which “stamped” on an altitude of 3300 meters above sea level. Many other petroglyphs would show scenes of hunting of mountain goats, while others would include depicted images of a musical instruments such as rubob. (about 300 pictures).

You will be able to stay at home-stays of the Langar village for about 10 – 15 USD a night, but even if that is expensive, your surely will find a shelter in any of the local houses of the friendly people of Langar by showing some respect and winning hearts.  

Also, do not forget to visit the fortress Ratm, 5 km from Langar. It's - the last village, locking the Wakhan valley. Ratm was built during the Kushan era and the castle ruins are worth attention!
